Shrouded in infrared, we have our first look at Robert Pattinson's Batsuit from the forthcoming reboot, The Batman.

Overnight, director Matt Reeves dropped the camera test footage on his Twitter account, with some slow-moving shots and swelling music.

We can see a metallic take on the iconic bat insignia in the chest plate, an angular chunk with gunmetal vibes.

Sweeping up, past some shoulder armour, we also get a first glimpse of Pattinson's cowl too, which looks like stitched leather.

Pattinson recently spoke about wearing the suit to Variety, telling the magazine that putting it on made him feel 'powerful immediately', though there are some indignities involved too.

“And it’s pretty astonishing, something that is incredibly difficult to get into, so the ritual of getting into it is pretty humiliating,” he said.

“You’ve got five people trying to shove you into something. Once you’ve got it on, it’s like, ‘Yeah, I feel strong, I feel tough, even though I had to have someone squeezing my butt cheeks into the legs.'”

The music – as confirmed by the composer himself – is from Michael Giacchino, who worked with Reeves on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, as well as movies like Doctor Strange, Rogue One, Spider-Man: Far From Home and recently Jojo Rabbit, which earned him a BAFTA nomination.

Suffice to say that the tone – and lighting – is roundly... dark.

And there's little light shed on what the movie's plot will be either, thus far, with Reeves keeping things very much close to his chest, though it's thought that this iteration of Batman will focus on his detective skills.

He will need them – with a cadre of villains to take on.

Confirmed for the movie so far are Paul Dano as the Riddler, Colin Farrell as the Penguin and John Turturro as crime boss Carmine Falcone.

Also among the cast are Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon and Andy Serkis as Bruce Wayne's butler Alfred.

Currently filming on location in London, it's set for release on 25 June, 2021.
