The new standalone ‘Star Wars’ film ‘Rogue One’ is packed with references, cameos, and Easter eggs for fans to enjoy, but having been one of the privileged first few to have seen the film in full one cameo surprised us more than most.
We can reveal that Jordan Stephens, one half of Brighton-based pop duo Rizzle Kicks, appears in the film’s climactic battle sequence in a small but crucial role. His involvement in the film has been top secret up to now, and his name has not been used in the marketing at all, so his brief appearance came as a total surprise.
Without giving away too many spoilers we can confirm he plays a Rebel Alliance soldier who joins the Rogue One gang of insurgents to storm the beaches of the tropical planet of Scarif. The location is a key battleground for the Rebel spies who are hoping to secure the plans for the Death Star, and Jordan’s character helps Riz Ahmed’s defected pilot Bodhi Rook to perform a key task in the attack.
Jordan’s appearance as an actor rather than a musician shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans of the ‘Get Down With The Trumpets’ duo. Jordan and Rizzle Kicks bandmate Harley “Sylvester” Alexander-Sule both come from a performing arts background having attended the prestigious BRIT School together.
Stephens has appeared in a number of TV shows in the past including Sky One’s ‘The Last Panthers’, and he made his feature film debut earlier this year in crime thriller ‘Alleycats’, while Harley appeared in urban gangland film ‘The Guvnors’ in 2014.
When quizzed about Stephens’ role at the ‘Rogue One’ press junket Riz Ahmed remained tight-lipped, only confirming to Yahoo Movies that the Rizzle Kicks star IS in the film, without giving anything else away about how he got involved in the huge franchise.
