Ruby Rose was 'almost paralysed' following injuries on 'Batwoman' TV series

Ruby Rose has revealed that she had to undergo emergency surgery after sustaining potentially life-changing injuries on the set of the new Batwoman TV show.

In a post to her Instagram page, the Orange Is The New Black star has posted a lavishly produced video of the surgery (which is pretty graphic in places), which she underwent to stop two discs in her back severing her spinal chord.

“To everyone asking about my new Pez dispenser scar on my neck... A couple of months ago I was told I needed an emergency surgery or I was risking becoming paralyzed,” she writes.

“I had herniated two discs doing stunts, and they were close to severing my spinal chord. I was in chronic pain and yet couldn’t feel my arms... Thank you Dr Bray for everything you did and for allowing me to keep working and doing what I love. I am forever in your debt.

“And to anyone asking why I let them video it.. Did you not watch that Greys anatomy episode where they left a towel in a patient?? Also I wanted to see what happens when we go under.”

33-year-old Rose is playing Batwoman – aka Kate Kane, Bruce Wayne's cousin – in the new CW series, part of the Arrowverse, filling the crime-fighting void in Gotham City after Batman disappears.

She will be the first openly gay superhero to lead a TV series.

“This is a childhood dream,” the Australian star said when her role was announced.

“This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different. Thank you everyone. Thank you god.”

Also starring are Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Rachel Skarsten and Dougray Scott, with a reported guest appearance from Burt Ward, aka Robin from the original 60s Batman TV show.

It airs on October 6.
