Rumour: George Miller May Direct Superman Solo Movie

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s more unsubstantiated gossip about the future of the DC cinematic universe!

As you’ll doubtless be aware by now, Henry Cavill is set to reprise his role as Superman in next year’s ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ which will also introduce Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg and Jason Momoa as Aquaman.

This ensemble will reunite in a two-volume ‘Justice League’ movie from director Zack Snyder, and further solo movies are confirmed for all of them - except, that is, for Superman.

Even so, there is naturally speculation that there will at some point be a further solo movie to follow on from 2013′s ‘Man of Steel’ - and now word is getting around that George Miller might be in line to direct it.

This rumour was voiced in a DC Movie News podcast by journalist Jon Schnepp, who called Miller “a perfect choice for ‘Man of Steel 2.’”

Subsequent to this, serial scooper Umberto Gonzalez of Heroic Hollywood took to Twitter to assert his own responsibility for breaking the story, calling it “old news & non news,” and insisting it’s “still up in the air.”

It would make sense for George Miller (pictured below with both Mad Max actors, Mel Gibson and Tom Hardy) to be involved with the new DC movies, as he had been set to direct the infamously aborted ‘Justice League: Mortal back in 2008.

Miller also has a long, sturdy relationship with Warner Bros, having made all four ‘Mad Max’ films including this year’s ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ for the studio, as well as ‘The Witches of Eastwick’ and ‘Happy Feet.’

At 70, Miller’s considerably older than a lot of the key players in the DC universe right now, but ‘Fury Road’ proved he hasn’t in any way lost his touch at crafting epic spectacle.

Still, for now a George Miller ‘Superman’ is just a rumour - even if it is an exciting one.
