Rupert Grint Bought Some Pretty Weird Things With His Harry Potter Fortune

It is, perhaps, what any of us might do after earning millions of pounds while still in our teens – you’d make some pretty rash purchases.

But Rupert Grint spent some of his Harry Potter fortune on some preeeetty weird stuff, he’s revealed.

Speaking to Yahoo Movies in the US, he explained that once he was off the Potter leash, at the age of 23, he got to spending.

“I traveled and spent money on ridiculous things,” he said.

“I was like a five-year-old. I bought a hovercraft, an ice cream van. In that way I was kind of like Michael Jackson, it was my Michael Jackson phase. The hovercraft was crazy.

“I bought a paddleboat in the shape of a swan. It got a little bit crazy.”

And while surely anyone would want their own Mr Whippy van, it did have its drawbacks.

“I do [still have it], but I don’t really drive it anymore. It’s not the most practical.

“And you can’t park it anywhere. As soon as you park it, people queue up. But you can’t really blame them.”

What he neglected to mention was the boutique hotel he bought in 2011, called Rigsby’s Guesthouse after the classic TV show ‘Rising Damp’, in Hertford.

However, it emerged this week that he has now closed the £150-per-night destination, after it made just £2014 profit since it opened.

It’s not all bad, however.

It did win an episode of Channel 4 reality show '4 In A Bed’, in which hoteliers go to star at each other’s properties, and rate them.

Next up, Grint is appearing in the comedy ‘Moonwalkers’, starring alongside Ron Perlman. You can check out the trailer below…
