Saw X has shared a first look at the movie, with the latest instalment in the horror franchise also bringing its release date forward.

The 10th entry will now be released in cinemas on September 29 instead of October 27, with the official media channels teasing the return of Tobin Bell's villainous John Kramer, who had died in Saw III.

The latest film will follow Jigsaw between the events of Saw I and II (via Deadline), with a synopsis teasing: "a sick and desperate John travelling to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer".

It continues: "[After] discovering the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable, the infamous serial killer returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through devious, deranged, and ingenious traps."

Upon the announcement of Bell's return last year, producers Oren Koules and Mark Burg said: "What a thrill to be reuniting with Tobin. His performance as John Kramer is part of the magic that made this franchise a phenomenon and his character is an active part of this film.

"We have been listening to what the fans have been asking for and are hard at work planning a movie that Saw aficionados and horror fans alike will love."

As well as Bell, Saw X sees the return of director Kevin Gretuert, who directed both Saw VI and Saw 3D, whilst Shawnee Smith makes her first appearance as Amanda Young since Saw VI. The director announced in February that filming had been completed, describing the challenges as "huge".

"Just wrapped shooting on Saw X, and though the challenges were huge (easy films are rarely worthwhile in the end), it was one of the most rewarding and epic experiences of my life," he wrote. "My fingers are trembling with anticipation as I look forward to starting to edit."

Saw X is now scheduled to be released in cinemas on September 29.
