Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey flee in Jurassic World Rebirth trailer

Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson and Bridgerton actor Jonathan Bailey have been seen fleeing for their lives in the trailer for the latest Jurassic Park film.

The actors join a line-up including Homeland star Rupert Friend for Jurassic World Rebirth, which sees Johansson play Zora Bennett, a mission specialist, and Bailey portray palaeontologist Dr Henry Loomis as they travel to the research facility for the original Jurassic Park from the first film.

The teaser begins with Friend as someone from a pharmaceutical company, introducing Zora and Dr Henry and telling them they must journey to the island to get samples from the world’s three most massive dinosaurs that can be made into a drug to save people’s lives.

Zora describes herself and her team, including two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali as Duncan Kincaid, as “the best at moving people, and ourselves out of places they shouldn’t be”, before images are shown of them arriving by boat, and Dr Henry inspecting the experiments done by Jurassic Park scientists.

Then Zora is shown abseiling down a high cliff to get a sample from an egg, and being attacked by what appears to be pterodactylus, the flying dinosaur, and rescuing Dr Henry when he is flung off the side of the mountain.

At another point, Dr Henry says these “dinosaurs were too dangerous for the original park” and is seen having to cautiously tell a member of the team that the feared velociraptors are approaching.

The type of dinosaurs, called raptors in Jurassic Park, are one of the first seen in the franchise, and often seem intelligent, hunting in packs, in the various movies.

Later in the teaser, Dr Henry says they have “put themselves in a place they don’t belong”, and “survival is a long shot” as footage is seen of aquatic reptiles helping a mosasaurs – a fish-like reptile with teeth – by surrounding their boat, and the team running and trying to fend off dinosaurs.

The film, directed by British filmmaker Gareth Edwards, known for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and The Creator, is the seventh in the film series.

Beginning with Jurassic Park in 1993, starring Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, the first three films continued until Jurassic Park III in 2001.

The franchise was then restarted, and retitled Jurassic World with Chris Pratt in the main role in 2015, continuing with 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion.

Ahead of the latest film landing in cinemas, Black Widow and Avengers star Johansson has released a single with Goldblum, which will feature on his forthcoming album Still Blooming.

Johansson is also known for Lost In Translation (2003) and Marriage Story (2019), but has also dabbled in singing, releasing her debut album, Anywhere I Lay My Head, in 2008.

Bailey is an Olivier Award winner, and has been in political thriller Fellow Travelers, for which he won a best supporting actor Critics’ Choice Award, comedy Crashing and crime drama Broadchurch.

Ali won two Academy Award supporting actor gongs for period drama Green Book, and drama Moonlight.

Jurassic World Rebirth will be in UK cinemas on July 2.
