Schitt’s Creek co-creator Dan Levy's new movie Good Grief has landed a release date on Netflix.

Set to premiere on January 5, the film is Levy's directorial debut and will see him star alongside Luke Evans, Ruth Negga and Himesh Patel in a dark comedy which explores loss and grief.

Levy plays Marc Dreyfus, a man struggling with the death of his mother and living in the shadow of his "larger-than-life" husband, Oliver (Evans). However after Oliver's unexpected death Marc's world is shattered, sending him on a journey of self-discovery.

Together with his friends Sophie (Negga) and Thomas (Patel), Marc heads on a trip to Paris which sends them on a journey of soul-searching and facing hard truths.

Alongside acting and directing, Levy has written and produced the feature through his Not a Real Production Company (alongside Sister Pictures). Megan Zehmer, Debra Hayward and Kate Fenske have also produced the movie, with Stacey Snider and Caroline Levy handling executive production.

Also in the cast are Better Things' Celia Imrie, Game of Thrones' David Bradley, Spring Blossom's Arnaud Valois and Dopesick's Kaitlyn Dever.

Speaking about the film in a statement, Levy described it as a project which had helped him personally.

"Good Grief is a cautionary tale about friendship and loss and all the mess that comes with it when the truth is something you’ve evaded for most of your life," he said.

"It's funny, it's bittersweet, it’s a project that has helped me work through my own grief. And I hope it does the same for other people as well."

Levy was recently seen in hit Netflix series Sex Education and in Disney's The Haunted Mansion, alongside Rosario Dawson, Owen Wilson and Danny DeVito.

Good Grief premieres on January 5 on Netflix.
