Scream 6's first reactions have landed ahead of early UK release
Scream VI slices into cinemas next week, and we've now got the first reactions to the horror sequel.
The new movie sees Scream survivors Sam and Tara Carpenter (Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega) head to New York City, along with Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown), in an attempt to leave Woodsboro behind.
However, as long-time Scream fans know, it's not that easy to escape Ghostface and they're soon facing another fight for their lives against a new killer.
But does Scream VI live up to last year's requel? A lucky few critics have already seen the new movie and have taken to social media to share their thoughts.
Judging by the first reactions, the movie is a big hit.
Geek Vibes Nation said Scream 6 "is exactly what you want it to be and more", adding "The franchise hasn’t felt this tense or suspenseful since the original."
#ScreamVI is exactly what you want it to be and more. The tone is darker while still maintaining the wit that we love, the violence and gore has leveled up, the pacing is fantastic, and performances are great. Other critics agreed, with the New York setting being a particular hit. Collider's Steven Wintraub said, "Moving the story to NYC was a great decision." While Mark Daniell added: "Moving the action to NYC brings added tension to the story." He also noted that "Courteney Cox vs #Ghostface is legendary!"
#scream6 is very very good. It’s everything you want in a #scream movie and then some. Moving the story to NYC was a great decision. Going to make a ton of $. pic.twitter.com/jxNKeZrcoQ

So, #Scream6 starts gory and stays gory (the kills — and there are a LOT of them — are all brutal). There’s a tension and grime that comes with the NY setting, and the “core four” make the series their own. Still plenty of legacy, without having to rely on nostalgia. #Scream6 is a tense thrill ride and it’s the best sequel in the series. Moving the action to NYC brings added tension to the story. The “core four” and a diabolical new killer add fresh blood to the franchise. But Courteney Cox vs #Ghostface is legendary! pic.twitter.com/F8mer43SEH

Scream VI also brings back Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers and Hayden Panettiere as Scream 4 fan favourite Kirby Reed, although the sixth movie will be missing Scream regular Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott.
Ghostface has plenty of new potential victims too as the new movie also stars Jack Champion, Dermot Mulroney, Henry Czerny, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra and Samara Weaving.
But are any of them actually playing Ghostface? In the UK, fans will get to know early as the movie is coming out on Wednesday (March 8), two days ahead of the US release on March 10.
Ahead of its release, Cox revealed that she "missed" working with Campbell, but added that she's "going to support whatever she feels is right". She also teased a major showdown with Ghostface, so now we're worried.
"I have a really good scene with Ghostface and it was amazing. I've obviously been stabbed many times and all that, but this time, to work with Ghostface and not know who's under the mask, it was really fun," she recalled.
Scream VI is released in UK cinemas on March 8 and in US cinemas on March 10.
