Selena Gomez names red Prada ballgown as 'favourite outfit ever'

Selena Gomez has named the Prada ballgown she wore to the 2016 American Music Awards as one of her favourite-ever outfits.

In a new video for Vogue's Life in Looks series, the popstar reflected on 15 of her stage costumes and red carpet ensembles.

Speaking about the crimson Prada number she sported to the AMAs five years ago, Selena noted that she felt like she was entering a new phase of her life and career when she stepped out at the event.

"The reason why this is probably my favourite outfit I ever wore was because I took a break from a little bit of the craziness I live, and I remember, I was stepping to literally fresh of me really taking care of myself and then knowing this was the first time people were actually going to see me. I said, 'I want to think very Audrey Hepburn simple,'" she recalled. "My make-up is not over the top, there's barely an accessory. Once I put the dress on, I was like, 'I'm ready to be me. Ready to step into this world and reclaim my name.' When I put this dress on, it was like, 'This is the moment I want to have.' And I loved it so much."

During the chat, Selena also discussed the glitzy dress she donned for her Love You Like a Love Song video in 2011 and the sexy Versace bustier dress she wore to the 2013 MTV VMAs.

But it was the monochromatic Vera Wang gown that she chose for the 2015 Met Gala that really taught her the importance of collaborating with a designer to find silhouettes that complement her body shape.

"I fluctuate a lot with my weight, and I remember this night specifically I didn't feel good about my body. What was really amazing was I got the chance to work on a dress that fit my body. I had such a beautiful time shaping this dress," the 28-year-old smiled. "I think we came together and built something really beautiful and something that fit me really well. That was a moment where I was like, 'I don't have to be that 19-year-old body shape anymore. Because I'm not.'"
