It seems Simon Pegg is on a put-down streak.

Earlier this week the ‘Star Trek’ star laid into Trek fans for voting JJ Abrams’ recent ‘Star Trek into Darkness’, the worst movie in the franchise.

Now however, Pegg has launched an attack on fellow Brit funnyman Ricky Gervais, branding the comedian “a d*ck” for his controversial public put-downs.

Spot the irony in there Simon?

Pegg made his remarks whilst discussing TV comedy shows in an online interview with US comedian Marc Maron, criticising Gervais’ award-winning show ‘Extras’.

"I think Ricky Gervais's 'The Office' could have gone on a lot longer, and it should have done,” said Pegg, “it would have saved us two series of ‘Extras’ if he'd done that."

Maron then defended the show, saying he loved a particular sequence in which music legend David Bowie “serenades” Gervais's character, Andy Millman, with an insulting and improvised song in London's trendy Groucho Club.

But Simon, laughing, continued:  "I hated that. That wouldn't happen. There was never a VIP area in the Groucho Club and David Bowie would never have sung that song.”

"That was just Ricky saying 'I know David Bowie',” he added.

Simon admitted he found it "funny" being asked if he was friends with Gervais, saying: "We have a friendship of sorts.”

“Publicly [Ricky] has zero humility. He would never say anything nice about anyone," began Simon. "He's incredibly competitive and it's not enough that he be the best, everyone else has to die horribly.”

"In person he actually has some humility and is very sweet. He can be a nice guy.”

He continued: “The real [Ricky] is the guy that you meet and you have dinner with and he's very funny and personable and nice.”

"The public Ricky is a d*ck sometimes.  He never says anything nice about anyone.  So I hate public Ricky but I like private Ricky."
