Sir Anthony Hopkins Joins Transformers 5
Academy-award winners - roll out.
Following in the footsteps of such Oscar winners and critical darlings as Jon Voight, John Turturro, Frances McDormand, Stanley Tucci and John Malkovich, none other than Sir Anthony Hopkins has joined the ‘Transformers’ franchise.
The team behind the broke the news on Twitter, posting a photo of Hopkins with the note, “The man, the myth, the legend – help us welcome Sir Anthony Hopkins to the #transformers universe.“
Nothing has been revealed about the role Hopkins will play in ‘Transformers: The Last Knight.’ We’ll go out on a limb and assume it involves a lot of exposition.
Of course, that’s assuming Hopkins will physically appear rather than simply voicing a Transformer, which is of course a possibility - but it’d better be a very important Transformer for that.
Either way, the ‘Silence of the Lambs’ icon may not be the only Best Actor Ocar winner in the cast, as ‘The Artist’s Jean Dujardin is rumoured to be involved.
Despite being almost universally trashed by critics every step of the way, the ‘Transformers’ movies have proved unstoppable at the box office since the series began with the first live-action film in 2007.
The third and fourth installments, 2011′s ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ and 2014′s ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ both grossed upwards of $1 billion worldwide.
Upcoming firth installment ‘The Last Knight’ sees director Michael Bay behind the camera yet again, with existing series actors Mark Wahlberg (also an Oscar nominee) and Josh Duhamel returning.
‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ opens on 23 June 2017.
