Star Wars 8: Adam Driver Heaps Praise On Rian Johnson's 'Nuanced' Script

Adam Driver has talked highly of director Rian Johnson’s script for ‘Star Wars: Episode 8’, praising it for not “dumbing anything down”.

The as-of-yet still untitled eighth instalment of the main saga (to be joined by spin-off 'Star Wars: Rogue One’ in December) recently finished principal photography.

Talking to Collider, the actor who plays Kylo Ren, says: “It’s great. It’s similar to how The 'Empire Strikes Back’ has a different tone. For that people always go 'oooh, it’s dark’ but I don’t know that it necessarily is.

"It’s just different in tone in a way that I think is great and necessary but also very clear. He trusts [that] his audience is ready for nuance and ambiguity. He’s not dumbing anything down for someone and that’s really fun to play.”

Asked about Johnson who directs the film too, Driver said: “Rian is coming into something that we kind of set up and he just took it to the next level in a really great way.

"I learned a lot of things about my character through his writing. Some things we talked about before and some things we didn’t.

"He’s the most polite, unassuming guy and he was appropriately territorial about some things but would still be the first to admit when something’s not working. A lot of times you need to rise to understand what the script is, and perhaps I’m beginning to be unclear, but he’s a great person to work with.”

Johnson’s debut feature 'Brick’ and cult sci-fi 'Looper’ were both celebrated for Johnson’s script, as well as his direction. He’s also known for directing 'Breaking Bad’ episode 'Ozymandias’ thought by many to be among the greatest episodes of television ever made.

He is now in post-production on the film, with plenty of time before release to edit and potentially schedule some reshoots if required.

With Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and the rest of 'The Force Awakens’ fresh-faced cast set to return, ’Star Wars: Episode 8’ will be released on 15 December 2017.
