Souvenir hunting visitors to the new Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge attraction at Disneyland won't be able to take the replica 'thermal detonator' soft drink bottles on planes in the US.

The Transportation Security Administration has said that it won't be allowing the bottles either in hand luggage or check-in bags.

In response to a tweet from a question to its @AskTSA Twitter account, it said that 'replica and inert explosives aren't allowed'.

The bottles are mocked up to look – vaguely – like the thermal detonators seen in some of the Star Wars movies, most famously when Princess Leia, disguised as a bounty hunter, pulls one out in Jabba the Hutt's palace in Return of the Jedi.

The move has puzzled many, particularly considering that thermal detonators are, well, completely made up.

It's not even the first time that the novel-looking bottles of Sprite and Coca Cola have hit headlines.

After the new attraction opened earlier in the summer, souvenir bottles began appearing on eBay, along with other memorabilia lifted from restaurants, for vastly inflated prices.

One bottle of Coke was up for sale for £35, while metal sporks from Oga's Cantina were being hawked for £150.

Staff at the attraction were reportedly later assigned by management to ensure cutlery, glasses and menus remained in the theme diner.
