'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' will be the longest movie in the series

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be the longest movie in the history of the franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It weighs in at a sturdy 155 minutes, just beating previous record-holder Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which ran to 152 minutes.

For context, Star Wars: The Force Awakens had a runtime of 135 minutes, the first Star Wars movie A New Hope was 121 minutes, the Empire Strikes Back was 124 minutes and Return of the Jedi was 132 minutes.

The final trailer for The Rise of Skywalker was revealed yesterday, as were tickets for the film, and it looks like it will be an emotional conclusion to the current franchise.

Per the movie's official synopsis: “A year after the events of The Last Jedi, the remnants of the Resistance face the First Order once again—while reckoning with the past and their own inner turmoil. Meanwhile, the ancient conflict between the Jedi and the Sith reaches its climax, altogether bringing the Skywalker saga to a definitive end.”

Helmed by J.J. Abrams, and starring Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Naomi Ackie, Domhnall Gleeson, Richard E. Grant, Lupita Nyong'o, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, Ian McDiarmid, and Billy Dee Williams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker lands in the UK on 19 December.
