Stephen King’s It wraps production; creepy teaser photo released

They’ve officially completed principal photography on the long-awaited big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s much-loved novel ‘It’ – and the film’s producer has marked the occasion with a suitably creepy teaser image.

Barbara Muschietti took to Instagram to let followers know the good news, and give them a little fuel for nightmares in the process.

Muschietti wrote, “And yes, it’s a wrap on#itthemovie. Thank you amazing cast and crew for this magical journey. And thank you #stephenking for giving us this tale.”

Hopefully that’s a nice birthday present for the esteemed author, who just turned 69 this week.

The big screen take on ‘It’ has been in development for many years, infamously coming close to being made by ‘True Detective’ and ‘Beasts of No Nation’ director Cary Fukunaga with Will Poulter in the pivotal role of the evil clown Pennywise.

After Fukunaga walked over creative differences, ‘Mama’ director Andrés Muschietti (brother of producer Barbara) boarded the project, casting Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise.

King’s 1986 novel was set partially in the 1950s, centring on a group of young friends in a small town who come face-to-face with an ancient evil, then picked up with the same characters as adults in the 1980s when they must battle the evil again.

However, the movie has instead shifted the childhood section to the 1980s, whilst the adult scenes will take place in the present day.

No UK release date has been scheduled for ‘It’ at present, but the film is set to open in most territories in September 2017.

In the meantime, the 1990 TV mini-series adaptation of ‘It’ (which famously starred Tim Curry as Pennywise) will be released to Blu-ray on 3 October from Warner Bros Home Entertainment.
