Steve Guttenberg Reunites With Police Academy Cast For Lavalantula

Key ‘Police Academy’ cast alumni, including Steve Guttenberg and Michael Winslow, are reuniting for Syfy’s latest ridiculously-titled monster mash-up movie ‘Lavalantula’.

This story ticks so many boxes for us, it’s hard to know where to begin. Let’s start with that film title.

- ‘Mighty Ducks’ Cast Reunion
- ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ Cast Reunite
What Happened To Newt From ‘Aliens’?

From the B-movie studio that brought us such memorable titles as ‘Sharknado’, ‘Arachnoquake’, and ‘Piranhaconda’, the word ‘Lavalantula’ is definitely a towering linguistic achievement. It smashes “lava” and “tarantula” together into a tongue-twisting moniker in one dictionary-challenging flourish.

It’s the kind of title you’ll need to read aloud in your head a few times before you’re confident to say it out loud. According to The Wrap, the film’s plot will see “oversized, fire-breathing tarantulas” laying waste to Los Angeles, and I know what you’re thinking – this sounds like a job for the ‘Police Academy’.

Steve Guttenberg (Mahoney in the first four ‘PA’ films) stars as a washed-up 90s action hero and he teams up with Leslie Easterbrook, who played the statuesque Callahan, and Michael Winslow, the man of a 1000 voices, who played Jones in all seven ‘Police Academy’ films.

It’s the ‘Police Academy’ reunion we never knew we wanted. If they can convince Bobcat Goldthwait to put in a cameo as Zed, we’re on board.

Unfortunately both Bubba Smith and David Graf, who played Hightower and Tackleberry respectively, both passed away before this momentous reunion could happen.

‘Lavalantula’ is currently shooting now and will air on Syfy in 2015.
