Steven Spielberg says he's 'not finished' making movies

Steven Spielberg has said he's "not finished" making movies in a speech at the Berlin Film Festival.

The 76-year-old director released his 35th feature film, The Fabelmans, last year with many speculating that Spielberg would retire.

Receiving the Golden Bear for lifetime achievement at the festival, Spielberg reiterated he had no plans to stop making films: “I also feel a little alarmed to be told I’ve lived a lifetime because I’m not finished, I want to keep working. I want to keep learning and discovering and scaring the s*** out of myself, and sometimes the s*** out of you."

He added: “I gotta get back to some of those earlier scarier movies, but that’s another story for later on. As long as there’s joy in it for me, and as long as my audience can find joy and other human values in my films, I’m reluctant to ever say that’s a wrap.”

Spielberg also noted that his own father lived until he was 103 so there was a good chance he was going to be able to make quite a few more films.

Spielberg is the most commercially successful and famous film director of all time, responsible for classics such as Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark and E.T. the Extra Terrestrial.

He was won two Best Director Oscars for his work, with both coming in the 1990's for Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan.

His recent work includes historical dramas Bridge of Spies and The Post, his first musical in West Side Story and his latest film – the autobiographical The Fabelmans.

The Fabelmans is also nominated for seven Oscars at this year's Academy Awards with Spielberg up for Best Director. Michelle Williams and Judd Hirsch are also nominated for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor respectively.
