Stormy Daniels Doc Finds Global Distribution; Dara Ó Briain Pyramid Series; ‘Peaky Blinders’ Exec Joins STV Studios – Global Briefs
Stormy Daniels Doc Finds Global Distribution
Blue Ant Studios (Canada’s Drag Race) has taken worldwide distribution on Stormy, an in-depth documentary about the life of Stormy Daniels coming on the day of Donald Trump’s hush money trial. Daniels made headlines in 2018 when The Wall Street Journal reported that, just before the 2016 U.S. presidential election, she was paid $130,000 to stop her disclosing an affair she and Trump allegedly had in July 2006. Trump’s trial takes place from today in New York. Peacock’s Stormy is produced by Emmy-nominated Erin Lee Carr (I Love You, Now Die: The Commonwealth v. Michelle Carter) and producer/director Sarah Gibson (Orgasm Inc: The Story of One Taste), who were also behind the Britney vs. Spears explosive doc. “Our team is thrilled to have international rights for this sought-after documentary produced by two renowned filmmakers who specialize in portraying the stories of women exploited and harmed by the legal system,” said Lilla Hurst, Global Head of Acquisitions & Content Strategy, Blue Ant Studios. The documentary is currently streaming on Peacock in the U.S. and is executive produced by Emmy Award-winning Judd Apatow (George Carlin’s American Dream) alongside Emmy Award-winning Sara Bernstein and Meredith Kaulfers from Imagine Documentaries (The Super Models).

Dara Ó Briain to present Channel 5 series on pyramids
Irish comedian and presenter Dara Ó Briain is leading a Channel 5 series about pyramids. The Mysteries of the Pyramids, produced by Wildflame, will see Ó Briain joined by archaeologist Raksha Dave and Egyptologist Dr Chris Naunton to explore compelling questions and far-fetched theories surrounding pyramids. “What a joy to explore these great monuments to human ingenuity and effort; to sort out the amazing facts from the many, frankly, ridiculous fictions that surround them; but mainly to live out all my Indiana Jones fantasies, scrambling in sandy tunnels in search of treasure, just without all the Nazis or the snakes,” said Ó Briain. The Mysteries of the Pyramids has Emmy award-winning Ben Fox (Attenborough and the African Elephant, Me and My Dog) as Executive Producer, Ewen Thomson as Series Producer and Director and Josh Key as Producer. Silverlining Rights is the exclusive worldwide distribution partner.

She has overseen several critically acclaimed projects including the fifth series of international hit Peaky Blinders, two seasons of ITV’s The Good Karma Hospital and the BBC’s The A Word. She will be working alongside Sarah Brown (Creative Director of Drama at STV Studios), Elaine Collins (Managing Director of Tod Productions), and Two Cities’ Joint CEOs, Michael Jackson and Stephen Wright. Hamill’s initial projects at STV Studios will include the third series of Blue Lights, which was commissioned for a third and fourth series by the BBC earlier this year, as well as three-part Netflix series The Witness and Mozart biopic Amadeus for Sky, both of which go into production later this year.
