Studio Deal With Manchester United Sees Players Promote The Revenant

Football fans on social media may have noticed in the past week that many Manchester United players seem to be really eager to see ‘The Revenant.’

Matteo Darmian, Chris Smaling, Memphis Depay, Ashley Young, Juan Mata, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bryan Robson and Andy Cole have all taken to Twitter in recent days to voice their excitement about director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s survivalist drama, hotly tipped to land Leonardo DiCaprio his first Best Actor Oscar.

However, while it’s feasible the teammates may be entirely genuine in their interest in the movie, it has come to light there may be another key factor behind their social media posts.

The Manchester Evening News report that the wealthy football team have quietly entered into partnership with 20th Century Fox, the studio behind ‘The Revenant.’

However, the players were reportedly not paid to tweet about the film.

The deal with 20th Century Fox, which has not been formally announced, also explains why the studio’s famous fanfare has been played at Manchester United’s last three home games.

Fox chairman Rupert Murdoch had previously attempted to buy Man Utd in 1998, but the deal was ultimately blocked by the Monopolies and Mergers Commission.

‘The Revenant’ is in cinemas now.
