‘Suicide Squad’s’ many, many detractors were left aghast on Sunday night, when the critically mauled blockbuster walked away with an Academy Award.

Alessandro Bertolazzi, Giorgio Gregorini, and Christopher Nelon picked up the gong for their work on ’Suicide Squad’s’ makeup and hairstyling, beating ‘Star Trek Beyond’ and ‘A Man Called One’ to collect the award.

What made ‘Suicide Squad’s’ victory at the Academy Awards even more remarkable was the fact that it came just one night after it was “celebrated” at the Golden Raspberry Awards, where Jared Leto and David Ayer were nominated in the Worst Supporting Actor and Worst Screenplay categories.

Jared Leto was actually piped to the Worst Supporting Actor gong by another member of the DC Extended Universe, as Jesse Eisenberg was named the “winner” of this accolade for his performance as Lex Luthor in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice’.

It wasn’t the only recognition that ‘Batman v Superman’ got on Saturday night, as Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill were called the Worst Screen Combo, the film itself was named the Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel, and Chris Terrio and David S Goyer claimed Worst Screenplay.

Unfortunately for ‘Suicide Squad’ it only received one Academy Award nomination so it won’t be able to claim any more gongs. Maybe Viola Davis or Jared Leto can do Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, or Jai Courtney a favour and let them just touch their Academy Awards.
