Surprise, Surprise! Lady Gaga To Play Cilla Black In New Movie

American singer-songwriter (and erstwhile actress) Lady Gaga is reportedly set to play Cilla Black in a new movie about the life of Dionne Warwick.

The BBC reports that Gaga is being lined up to play the Scouse singer in a film based on Warwick’s own autobiography ‘My Life, As I See It’.

The news was announced at Cannes Film Festival by Warwick herself, who had a long-running feud with Cilla after the British star’s George Martin-produced cover of Burt Bacarach’s ‘Anyone Who Had a Heart’ eclipsed her own, earlier version.

In 1995 on a TV tribute to the music of Bacharach Cilla said: “It was a No.1; Dionne was dead choked and she’s never forgiven me to this day.”

When asked at Cannes why she viewed Cilla as her nemesis, Warwick (pictured above in 1964) offered it was: “because she stole my music”.

LeToya Luckett, an early member of Destiny’s Child, is being lined up to play Dionne, with Mario van Peebles in talks to direct.

Whether anything will come of this plan is yet to be seen as Cannes is the place where people traditionally pitch their films to prospective financiers… kind of like ‘Blind Date’.

Could Lady Gaga’s presence be enough to get this off the ground?

One thing’s for sure, if anyone’s got a set of pipes to match our Cilla, it’s Gaga.
