‘The Banana Splits’ series is getting a horror reboot, and it has a terrifying trailer
If you grew up watching The Banana Splits while eating bowls of sugary cereal on BBC1, get ready to be absolutely traumatised. That’s because SyFy have turned the live-action Hanna-Barbera series into an actual horror film.
You can watch the trailer below, but if you’re a small child who’s accidentally landed on this page looking for information on the series (which ran in the UK from 1970), then please click away now.
Violent terror isn’t something we’ve previously associated with The Banana Splits, but now we’ve watched the trailer it’s something we’ll never forget.

Look out Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees. Fleegle the Beagle, Bingo the Gorilla, Drooper the Lion, and Snorky the Elephant are the new horror icons, if this trailer is to be believed.
Still, there is some comfort. The film, directed by Danishka Esterhaz, and written by Jed Elinoff & Scott Thomas, thankfully, doesn’t feature the actual Banana Splits, but robot versions of the characters. That’ll make those piles of dead bodies slightly easier to take.
The Banana Splits Movie stars Dani Kind (Wyonna Earp) as Beth, Finlay Wojtak-Hissong (The Kindness of Strangers) as Harley, Romeo Carere as Austin, Steve Lund (Street Legal) as Mitch, and Sara Canning (A Series of Unfortunate Events) as Rebecca.

Here’s the official synopsis:
In the upcoming horror thriller, a boy named Harley and his family (brother Austin, mother Beth and father Mitch) attend a taping of “The Banana Splits” TV show, which is supposed to be a fun-filled birthday for young Harley and business as usual for Rebecca, the producer of the series. But things take an unexpected turn — and the body count quickly rises. Can Harley, his mom and their new pals safely escape?
The Banana Splits Movie will premiere on Syfy later this year.
