Jorgen Klubien, an animator and writer who worked at Disney and Pixar with its troubled chief creative officer John Lasseter, has accused him of taking the credit for the Cars franchise.
A new study by The Hollywood Reporter indicates that the film will ‘top out’ at $300 million (approx £210 million) at the global box office. This leaves the troubled movie dragging behind Pixar’s next lowest earner - which, believe it or not, is the original ‘Toy Story,’ which made $362 million at cinemas worldwide. Naturally, Disney doesn’t have too much to worry about right now given the gargantuan success of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ ($1.89 billion and counting worldwide) as well as 2015′s earlier monster hits ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ ($1.45 billion) and Pixar’s considerably better received ‘Inside Out’ ($856.1 million).
Despite the return to classic form of ‘Inside Out’, it seems that Pixar’s latest movie could be its first flop. 'The Good Dinosaur’ was released on November 25 in the US, and it’s already said to be 'fading fast’ in its box office takings.
Because of the critical acclaim that has greeted Pixar’s releases in the past each new film from the studio is anticipated with a rabid fervour. “In the case of ‘Toy Story’, we had basically the perfect trilogy,” Catmull remarked.
There’s no denying that ‘Inside Out’ has been a huge success and return to form for Disney Pixar. Having amassed $832 million and received rave reviews across the critical board, it’s left some speculating over Pixar’s second film of 2015, ‘The Good Dinosaur’, with some convinced it’ll be overshadowed by the movie set inside a little girl’s mind. It appears Peter Sohn’s tale of when dinosaurs continued to rule the Earth after that meteor narrowly missed might not require any premature sympathy.
Pixar are well known for its superb short films that play before its cinema features. It’s had 10 Oscar nominations, winning three times, but this new story that accompanies ‘The Good Dinosaur’ looks their most intriguing yet. ‘Sanjay’s Super Team’ is about an Indian-American family, whereby its star, young Sanjay, is torn between his family’s traditional values and that of Western culture.
It’s common knowledge amongst cinephiles that Pixar employees like to pass the time by sneaking references to future projects into their films. Fans have been wondering if there was actually a reference to ‘The Good Dinosaur’ in ‘Inside Out’, and now they’ve got their confirmation, courtesy of producer Jonas Rivera who made this admission in a recent Q&A in Denmark to mark the release of the film. According to Hypable, after being asked what to look out for in ‘Inside Out’, Rivera remarked, “If you look close, you might find somebody that you’ll see later in ‘The Good Dinosaur’. Keep your eyes open!”
Disney Pixar have teased audiences at Comic-Con by screening their latest short, ‘Sanjay’s Super Team’, which will play before ‘The Good Dinosaur’. Director Sanjay Patel revealed how the animated film was made and shared how personal the project was for him.
