Terminator Genisys Title Revealed By Arnold Schwarzenegger

Drum roll please… the hotly-anticipated new chapter in the ‘Terminator’ movie series will be called ‘Terminator Genisys’, Yahoo Movies can reveal.

Arnold Schwarzenegger himself broke the news on his various social media channels, saying, “Hasta la vista, baby. I want to thank the cast and crew of @TerminatorGenisys for a fantastic shoot. It was challenging, it was fun, and it was rewarding. From our director to the producers, from the camera team to catering, from visual effects to hair and makeup - we couldn’t have done it without you. I can’t wait to see our finished project and I know we’ll remind the fans why they fell in love with the Terminator. On July 1, 2015, I’ll be back.”

The fifth movie in the series, which had been called ‘Terminator: Genesis’ up until now, has just wrapped filming in various locations in San Francisco, where the final ‘chaotic city scenes’ were shot, according to reports.

The movie has also been shooting in New Orleans, but as far as details of plot go, there is only speculation to go on… and a few details let slip by Arnie himself, of course.

According to the Austrian Oak, the franchise’s original antagonist-turned-cyborg bodyguard, he will be playing the T-800 once again, but thanks to the organic nature of the skin covering his mechanical inner workings, he appears to have aged.

“The way that the character is written, it’s a machine underneath. It’s this metal skeleton. But above that is human flesh,” he told MTV earlier this year. “And the Terminator’s flesh ages, just like any other human being’s flesh. Maybe not as fast. But it definitely ages.

“Terminator deals a lot with time travel, so there will be a younger T-800, and then what that model does later on when it gets reprogrammed, and who gets ahold of him,” he went on. “So it will be all kinds of interesting twists in the movie.”

As well as the ubiquitous Arnie (he appeared in all films bar ‘Salvation’, in which he was CGI-ed – he was busy being Governor of California at the time) the casting appears to be spot on for the fifth movie.

'Game of Thrones' star Emilia Clarke is playing the latest incarnation of Sarah Connor, opposite 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' actor Jason Clarke (no relation), who's playing her son John Connor. Doubtless the disparity in age will be dealt with in the fabric of the time travel plot.

Elsewhere, Jai Courtney is playing Kyle Reese, immortalised by Michael Biehn in the first movie, Dayo Okeniyi is Danny, the son of Skynet man Miles Dyson (played by Joe Morton in ‘Terminator 2’), and J.K. Simmons is reportedly playing a ‘weary, alcoholic detective’, who has been trailing the Sarah Connor case for three decades.

Matt Smith, our very own former Doctor Who, is on board too, alongside Byung Hun Lee, of ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ fame, both in so-far unspecified roles.

Directing is Alan Taylor, whose appointment was likely met with an audible sigh of relief for fans of the franchise.

Taylor impressed many with ‘Thor: The Dark World’, but prior to that was known for his sterling TV work, helming pivotal episodes of series including ‘Deadwood’, ‘The Sopranos’, ‘Man Men’, ‘Boardwalk Empire’ and ‘Game Of Thrones’.

And that’s more or less all we know thus far. It’s rumoured this could be the first of a new trilogy, but so far that’s remained unconfirmed.

The release date, if you can wait that long, is slated for June 26, 2015.

Hasta la vista…
