'Ticket to Paradise' UK release delayed due to the Queen's funeral

Ticket to Paradise, the new film starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts, has seen its release date moved because of the Queen's funeral.

The film was supposed to be released on 16 September but has been moved to 20 September, the day after the Queen Elizabeth II's funeral.

In a statement Universal, the studio behind the film, said the delay was out of "respect for the Royal Family".

A spokesperson for Universal said: "With the passing of Her Majesty the Queen, Universal, Working Title, Julia Roberts, George Clooney and director Ol Parker have all decided to delay the opening of Ticket to Paradise in the UK."

After the Queen died on 8 September, TV channels changed their scheduled programming to cover either rolling news or tribute programs about the late monarch.

Staple shows such as Emmerdale, Coronation Street and EastEnders have all been juggled around the schedule as broadcasters focussed on the death of the Queen and the ascension of King Charles III to the throne.

Ticket to Paradise is the biggest film to alter its release due to the death of the Queen and her state funeral which will take place on 19 September and also be a bank holiday in the UK.

Starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts as a divorced couple who team up to try and stop their daughter from marrying a man she has only just met.

It is a return to the rom-com genre for both of its lead stars with Roberts previously starring in the likes of Pretty Woman and Notting Hill to much success.

Roberts and Clooney also starred together in heist film Ocean's Eleven and its sequel Ocean's Twelve along with Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia and Don Cheadle.
