Tom Cruise and John Travolta have been spotted at the opening ceremony of a new $145 million “cathedral” where Scientologists will practice a program called the “Super Power Rundown”.
The A-List pair were snapped standing in the front row of a 6,000 strong crowd, as the massive 377,000-square-foot Flag Building was unveiled in Clearwater, Florida.
Dubbed the “Super Power Building”, the new installation has been 15 years in the making. It will provide advanced training to parishioners embarking on founder L. Ron Hubbard’s “Super Power Rundown”, designed to teach individuals to harness their 57 “perceptics”, or senses.
Spokesperson Ben Shaw described the programme as: “a series of spiritual counselling processes designed to give a person back his own viewpoint, increase his perception, exercise his power of choice, and greatly enhance other spiritual abilities”.
Hubbard himself believe that Super Power would allow Scientologists to “create a new world”.
As well as a visitor centre, large kitchen and dining areas, offices and classrooms, the Flag Building also contains 300 rooms for “auditing” – the religion’s special form of counselling, thought to cost around $1000 a session. Whilst the “Super Power” dedicated fifth floor is rumoured to house a gyroscope-like wheel, said to allow users to experience zero-gravity conditions.
The inaugural event was apparently open to all Scientology parishioners, however local paper the Tampa Bay Tribune reported a thick veil of security surrounded the ceremony, including a 6ft privacy fence preventing all but the most exclusive access.
Prominent church member Cruise’s next movie, ‘Edge Of Tomorrow’ is expected in UK cinemas 6 June 2014.
