Tyrese Gibson, who plays Roman Pearce in the ‘Fast And Furious’ series, has explained to Yahoo why he thinks the films have become so successful (watch our interview below).

While promoting the DVD and Blu-ray release of ‘Furious 7’ in Abu Dhabi (obviously), Gibson told us the secret to the franchise’s mass appeal.

“Fast and Furious is the most progressive, multi-ethnic experience and cultural phenomenon that has ever happened to cinema,” he said. “I think that’s one of the most unspoken realities of ‘Fast and Furious’. There is nothing like going to a theatre and having a bunch of people from many different backgrounds, many different nationalities all in one movie so that you can see somebody in the film that you can identity with. There is nothing more empowering.”

The multi-national cast of ‘Fast And Furious 7’ includes Gibson, Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Dwayne Johnson, Luke Evans, Tony Jaa, Sung Kang and Djimon Hounsou.

The ‘Fast and Furious’ series has bucked the Hollywood trend and become MORE successful with each movie. The latest instalment for broke records this year on it’s way to making almost £1 billion at the box office.

We also asked Gibson about how the ‘Fast And Furious’ team dealt with the tragic sudden death of cast member Paul Walker in a car crash in November 2013.

He said: “Everything about every aspect of the movie on the other side of us losing our brother was very, very confusing and emotional. And at a certain point we all as a family got together and we just kept talking, trying to motivate and inspire each other and keep each other fired and we said: “We’re gonna do what we gotta do to celebrate his legacy… so it wasn’t about sadness.”

‘Furious 7’ is out now on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download.
