Vine Star Curtis Lepore Exits Rainn Wilson Comedy

When on Monday we broke the story of a new scripted comedy series project produced by Rainn Wilson and his SoulPancake banner featuring five of the most popular personalities on short-form video platform Vine, there was immediate online backlash against one of the stars, Curtis Lepore. The objections to his involvement in the project, titled Hollywood and Vine, stemmed from a rape charge against the viral star at the beginning of the year. Lepore was charged with raping his ex-girlfriend but ended up pleading guilty to a lesser assault charge.

Five days later, Lepore has been dropped from the project.

“After much consideration, the decision was made with Curtis Lepore to mutually part ways on SoulPancake’s television project featuring Vine stars,” Wlson wrote on his Facebook page Friday night. “We felt this was the best decision for everyone involved. We wish Curtis all the best in all his future endeavors.”

Written by Lance Krall, Hollywood and Vine follows the lives of five social-media stars at the intersection of life as Millennials trying to cross over into traditional Hollywood. The other four Vine favorites attached to star are Jerry Purpdrank, Lele Pons, Simone Shepherd and Christian DelGrosso.
