Vine Stars Jason Nash, Brandon Calvillo Join Road Trip Comedy ‘FML’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Vine stars Jason Nash and Brandon Calvillo have joined “FML,” an upcoming road trip comedy film from Digital Riot Media, Variety has learned.

“FML” will begin shooting in April with Nash starring and directing from his own screenplay. Nash and Calvillo together have more than 8 million followers on the Vine platform.

The cast includes T.J. Miller and Andy Daly of “Silicon Valley,” Patton Oswalt and Ken Marino. Digital Riot Media CEO John Baldecchi, producer of “Point Break,” will produce alongside Kevin Herrera under Herrera’s new banner Moopsy.

“FML” (short for F— My Life) follows two social media celebrities — a married adult (Nash) and a teenage virgin (Calvillo) – teaming up for a cross-country journey from Los Angeles to New York City and stopping along the way to shoot what they hope will be “bangers” (viral videos) with other stars.

Nash’s character is desperate to get to the 1 million follower mark in the hope of rescuing his family’s financial situation while Calvillo simply wants to hook up with a woman in New York who’s been flirting with him online.

” ‘FML’ is about my experiences on Vine and the wild world of social media,” Nash said. “It’s an exploration of the immense power technology has handed millennials and yet how many have never felt more alone. It also has a fair amount of dick jokes.”

Nash created the Web series “Jason Nash Is Married.”

Baldecchi said: “The stars of today have audiences that consume entertainment online, and Digital Riot Media is focused on using best practices from both the traditional as well as new media in order to bring high quality entertainment to where their fans live.”

Digital Riot is touting “FML” as its first “direct to fan” online film. It plans to produce 10 to 15 feature-length films each year with marketing and distributing through a variety of streaming, direct-to-fan and VOD channels.

Digital Riot launched in December as a movie production and distribution company aiming to target fans of Viners, YouTubers and Instagram stars.
