The cheekbones are back.

Disney has just dropped a time-lapse look at how Angelina Jolie is transformed into the witch Maleficent.

Set to AC/DC's iconic Back In Black, the prosthetics are slowly layered on before the contouring make-up, the horns, and then finally, the fangs.

It makes what is likely several hours in the make-up chair zip by in less than a minute, doubtless preferable to the reality of it, though Jolie seems pretty game throughout.

The original make-up designs for the first movie, now transplanted over into the forthcoming sequel, were developed by the legendary Rick Baker, the seven-time Oscar-winning artist behind An American Werewolf in London, Michael Jackson's Thriller, Starman and Hellboy.

The first movie was a $760 million smash for Disney, with Jolie playing the witch who curses Princess Aurora – aka Sleeping Beauty.

The movie delved into Maleficent's backstory, revealing a tortured soul stripped of her wings, who then comes good by the end.

In the sequel, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, the relationship between Aurora and the witch is tested, when the Princess announces her marriage.

Maleficent is then pitted against Michelle Pfeiffer's Queen Ingrith of Ulstead, who is seeking to divide the human and fairy people once and for all.

Helmed by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales director Joachim Rønning, it's due for release on October 18.
