The Nun 2's terrifying first teaser trailer has arrived, bringing back The Conjuring's demon nun Valak.

In the horror sequel, we'll be reunited with Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) who, after the traumatic events of the first movie, now lives in a convent in Italy. But as the teaser shows, Valak isn't too far behind.

Irene ends up having to go to France when a priest is murdered and an evil is spreading, and maybe she's the only one who can stop it.

We knew The Nun 2 trailer was coming today (July 6) after it was teased last night with a 15-second preview of Valak's return.

Filming for the anticipated sequel began in October 2022. American Horror Story star Taissa Farmiga, who starred in the 2018 original, is returning as Sister Irene, while Bonnie Aarons returns as Valak.

New cast additions for The Nun 2 include Euphoria and The Suicide Squad star Storm Reid. Her appointment was announced in September 2022, though no further details have been shared of her character or role in the sequel.

Michael Chaves will direct The Nun 2, who himself is no stranger to The Conjuring Universe. He also directed 2021's The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, so the sequel is very much in safe hands.

The Nun was released as a prequel to The Conjuring 2 back in 2018. It follows the story of Roman Catholic priest Father Burke (Demián Bichir) and nun in training Sister Irene (Farmiga) as they investigate an unholy incident in 1950s Romania.

Though they soon find themselves in danger from the demonic entity Valak, who is manifesting as a nun.

Critics weren't bowled over by the film at the time, with reviews for The Nun less positive than the response to 2013's The Conjuring. The film has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 25%, with an audience rating of 35%.

The Nun 2 will be released in cinemas on September 8.
