Based on the novel by AM Shine, The Watched boasts the involvement of legend M Night Shyamalan as producer, whilst also being written and directed by his daughter, Ishana Night Shyamalan.

The general consensus of critics suggested the visuals and scenery were suitably eerie, but the narrative failed to command attention.

"The film follows Mina (Fanning), a 28-year-old artist, who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night," the official synopsis reads.

Fanning is joined by Barbarian star Georgina Campbell, Outlander's Oliver Finnegan and The Tourist's Olwen Fouéré.

In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, Fanning discussed what it was like working with director Shyamalan on her "debut feature film".

"She's such a creative, artistic person and has done so much thinking about the film that she wanted to make and the world that she wanted to create, so it was wonderful getting to be a part of that with her," said Fanning.

"She comes from a family that's very creative obviously, and so it was very inspiring to see her forging her own path within that. I loved getting to work with her and getting to know her, she's also a really nice, wonderful person and happy to have her as a friend as well."

The Watched is now out in UK cinemas.
