Lines like 'Apoca-who?’ and 'Anything for the team!’ will be hard to forget, but now even harder to forgive, considering that he’s appearing in new promotional material for 'Independence Day: Resurgence’. (Both films are made by 20th Century Fox).

We can now add ‘I’m fairly certain we can handle a few out-of-towners…’ to Wayne’s dazzling showreel.

The new teaser show’s Rooney and teammates Juan Mata, Ashley Young, Chris Smalling and Daley Blind in a dog fight with alien forces, and the results are… well, let’s not start booking the hotels for Oscar night just yet.

It’s not been welcomed with open arms by fans, either. At all.

Ouch…

Sounds like as far as the fans are concerned, perhaps it might be best sticking to the football…
