Deadpool & Wolverine spoilers follow.

Blade star Wesley Snipes has reprised the vampire hunter role in Deadpool & Wolverine, revealing protagonist Ryan Reynolds reached out to him to make it happen.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, the Blade trilogy actor explained that he'd thought he'd hung his Daywalker sword up for good before Reynolds messaged him.

"Over the years, we've had very interesting conversations, some of them very substantive and some of them not," Snipes said.

"So I kind of resided that I was moving on from them, which is okay. I did three of them, and I thought they turned out pretty good. Not so bad... So we move on to other things, and bigger and better things, as well."

Snipes said he didn't think "[a return] was possible" before Reynolds, who played Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity, insisted to meet.

"I didn't think we would be able to pull it off," Snipes said. "I didn't think that Marvel was into it, Disney was into it — also because they had Mahershala [Ali] cast for the next upcoming version of it," he added, referring to the True Detective star who's set to feature in a new Blade project that's still in development.

"I thought it didn't make sense to me, but [when] you get a call from Ryan Reynolds out of the blue after 20 years, you go, 'Okay, I got to take this call. Let's see what this is about,'" Snipes continued.

"He told me the idea... They said 'yes' and 'it's a go.' 'If you're in, we're in.' Here we are."

Deadpool & Wolverine reunited different Marvel stars from before and after the MCU, including Chris Evans in his Johnny Storm aka Human Torch role.

The Captain America star recently said that returning in his Fantastic Four character had been "a dream come true" and that he'll always cherish that part.

Deadpool & Wolverine is out now in cinemas.
