What to watch: The best movies new to streaming from Black Adam to Broker

Wondering what to watch this weekend? July kicks off in style with a number of exciting films and big-budget blockbusters arriving on streaming services for subscribers.

Netflix and Prime Video are releasing several thrilling new originals that range from a sci-fi comedy to an action comedy starring Pierce Brosnan, while Sky Cinema/NOW will give viewers access to some of the biggest films of recent months.

Acclaimed filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda returns with another heartfelt family drama, this time about a pair of brokers, played by Song Kang-ho and Kang Dong-won, who sell babies left for adoption on the black market.

When one baby's mother (IU) decides to join them in finding her child a better life, the group go on a road trip across South Korea where they begin to learn to love each other like family.

Although it is not as heartbreaking as Shoplifters it is another wonderful film by Kore-eda who has an incredible gift at bringing family dramas to life onscreen.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's long-anticipated DCU debut is finally making its way to streaming, giving fans who didn't have the chance to catch it at the cinema the opportunity to do so from the comfort of their own homes.

The superhero flick is a lot darker than might be expected of the genre, as Johnson's all-powerful Black Adam is reawakened in the present day in order to help the Justice Society with new formidable enemies.

Of course, the DCU is going through major changes so this will be the only time that viewers will see Johnson's character in the franchise for some time, and it will also be the last time that viewers can see Henry Cavill as Superman before David Corenswet takes over the role.

The Out-Laws (2023) | Netflix

Pierce Brosnan returns to the action genre in The Out-Laws, an action-packed comedy that sees the former Bond star portray the father of Parker McDermott (Nina Dobrev) who begins dating unassuming bank clerk Owen Browning (Adam Devine).

As things between Owen and Parker get serious and they decide to tie the knot, the bank manager starts to realise that her parents might be the infamous Ghost Bandits gang.

Jack Whitehall takes the leading man role in this dark comedy which he stars in opposite Shailene Woodley, they play Charles and Elaine two people who find love in a dystopian world where robots are regularly used by people as their replacements in day-to-day life.

In order to woo Elaine, Charles decides to send his more charming robot self while Elaine also secretly has a robot she sends to represent herself, what they don't expect is for the robots to fall in love themselves and decide to run away together.

The best films to watch on TV this weekend

For those without a subscription, there's still plenty of exciting films that are airing on terrestrial channels. Want to catch up on Mission: Impossible before Dead Reckoning Part One? No problem, because Channel 4 are airing Mission: Impossible - Fallout this weekend.

While the BBC is chock full of live Wimbledon coverage, over on BBC iPlayer, films like Mary Queen of Scots, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, The Heat and This Beautiful Fantastic are available to watch.

Elsewhere, the electrifying zombie horror Train to Busan will air on Film4, as will modern classic Stardust, and A Quiet Place Part II will screen on Channel 4 on Sunday, 2 July.
