Why Did Iron Man Recruit Spider-Man And Not Daredevil In Captain America: Civil War?

‘’Captain America: Civil War is now upon us, and moviegoers have been flocking to see it, with one of the main appeals being the debut of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

But while audiences are delighted to see Peter Parker join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, some fans have questioned why Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man asked Spider-Man and not Charlie Cox’s Daredevil to join his roster, especially since the former is still very much in his infancy as a superhero.

Both Spider-Man and Daredevil are based in New York, so it would have been very easy for Iron Man to swing by and pick up Matt Murdock instead.

When screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely were asked by IGN why Tony Stark didn’t acquire the services of Daredevil they joked, “Tony doesn’t have a television, so he doesn’t know about [Daredevil],” before Markus added that Daredevil was “so violent!”

Markus then provided a more serious answer by insisting that Tony Stark was trying to acquiesce his own guilt by asking for Spider-Man’s help.

“I think he has been keeping tabs on the world and he knows about this one kid,” Markus explained. “In some ways there’s a motivation, having been accused of killing a young kid earlier in the movie to, ‘Maybe I can rebuild karmically something that I’ve lost by keeping this kid along.’ And he’s there, and he’s available, and Tony’s desperate!”

McFeely also added a further reason why Tony Stark is so invested in Peter Parker, remarking, “He probably sees some of himself in this kid. Remember, when you meet this kid, he’s clearly a budding scientist, but doesn’t have the resources that Tony Stark does.”

Spider-Man’s part in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ has been roundly praised, as he brought levity to the huge action sequence that saw Captain America and Iron Man’s teams finally go toe-to-toe.

We’ll get to see even more of Tom Holland’s superhero not just in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, due out on July 6, 2017, but in many, many more films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Meanwhile, ‘Daredevil’s’ second season was recently released on Netflix, and the acclaim it received proves that Marvel are excelling on both the small and big-screen.

The question is though, are the studio will to promote Daredevil and give him his own feature film? Only time will tell.
