New 'The Woman in the Window' trailer terrifies and sparks calls for Amy Adams to win an Oscar

Just give Amy Adams the Oscar already.

The new trailer for thriller The Woman in the Window is packed with stars (Julianne Moore! Jennifer Jason Leigh! Gary Oldman!) and drama.

It shows Adams as an agoraphobic woman, unable to leave her apartment, who sees something sinister going on with her neighbour. With haunting music and the appearance of a mystery woman (Leigh), the clip is downright creepy.

Within hours, fans were calling for Adams to win the Academy Award for her part in the dark film.

Adams has been nominated for the Best Actress award once, for 2013’s American Hustle, and she’s received five nods for Best Supporting Actress. She was recognised for her work in Junebug, Doubt, The Fighter, The Master and Vice.

Aside from Adams and Moore, the name Alfred Hitchcock, a director known for his psychological thrillers, came up the most in reactions to the trailer. Hitchcock’s 1954 movie Rear Window has a similar premise to The Woman in the Window, as it’s about a man (Jimmy Stewart) left holed up in his apartment because of an injury. His character, too, sees something amiss out of his window.

The new movie, from Atonement director Joe Wright, also sparked comparisons to Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, two other recent thrillers adapted from books. Writer A.J. Finn published the novel, which was his first, in 2018.

Will Adams’s performance in the actual movie earn rave reviews? The Woman in the Window arrives in cinemas on 15 May, 2020.
