Kotaku reports that Jones revealed that the film will tell the story of the first contact between humans and orcs, focusing on the characters Sir Anduin Lothar and Durotan.

He confirmed that the movie will be set largely in the Eastern Kingdoms of Azeroth, adding that it will feature a mix of live action and CGI, with special effects created by Life of Pi's Bill Westenhoffer, a longtime fan of the game.

The director also promised to focus on both races equally, adding: "It's about both sides, you can be a hero whatever side you are on."

Speaking to Digital Spy, Blizzard CEO Paul Sams said that World of Warcraft will be more than just another video game adaptation.

"There's a high level of collaboration, and the good news is that nobody is interested in making a video game movie," he said.

"Everyone wants to make a truly groundbreaking, badass movie, that has simply gotten its source material from a video game, just like other great sci-fi, fantasy or superhero movies have been inspired by books or comic books."

Sams continued: "Everything that we've experienced and seen so far has been really impressive. We've been involved in a lot of the storyboarding and concept art, and what other aspects of the movie are going to look like."

Production is set to begin in Canada next February ahead of a release in 2015. The panel refused to comment on casting, but Colin Farrell and Paula Patton are both thought to be on Jones' wish list - check out our video below for more on the rumours.
