Zac Efron Admits His Shredded ‘Baywatch’ Physique Is “Unrealistic“

From Men's Health

It took twice-daily workouts, months of being "virtually carb-free" and hours of lifeguard training to carve Zac Efron’s ripped, lean beach body in Baywatch. A gruelling regimen even if you’re paid to do it.

Efron is no stranger to a body transformation. But after coming face-to-face with a wax figure modelled after his physique in the 2017 film – in which he portrayed an ex-Olympic swimmer – the star admitted he got “too big” for the role, adding “I don’t want people to think that’s the best way to be”.

When his new Madame Tussauds figure was unveiled on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Efron couldn’t hide his surprise. “Oh, shit!,” he said. “Whoa. Oh, whoa. Wow. Weird. Whoever did this, I’m very impressed and scared. They did a good job. It’s a little bigger than me.”

When DeGeneres pointed out a vein on the wax figure’s v-cut abs, Efron hiked up his shirt in comparison. “That’s real,” he said, “and the arm vein. The veins are, like, real popping.”

Efron went on to warn viewers not to idolise his frankly ridiculous (and genuinely roid-free) rig. “That’s too big,” he added. “For guys, that’s unrealistic. I’m telling you. I got very big and buff for that movie, but I don’t want people to think that’s the best way to be. Like, be your size… I don’t want to glamorise this.”

He’s totally right, of course. Sustaining a body like that year round is not only near impossible for the rest of us, but it also means no beers, no pizza, early nights and no days off.

Your best best if you want a Baywatch bod? Adopt the key principles set out by Efron’s personal trainer, but according to a training and eating schedule that works for you.
