3D Clash of the Titans was 'horrible' says director
Louis Leterrier can speak his mind now that it's all over
'Clash of the Titans' director Louis Leterrier has admitted that the 3D version of the film wasn't really up to snuff - and one quote in particular (about 'gimmicks') will not sit well with audiences.
Leterrier has opened up about his work on the swords-and-sandals remake for Warner Bros., which came out in 2010 and starred Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes and Sam Worthington.
Many critics considered the post-conversion to 3D a pretty disastrous exercise, and now the director is in agreement.
[Your Highness sucked, says James Franco]
“It was famously rushed and famously horrible,” he told the Huffington Post.
“It was absolutely horrible, the 3D. Nothing was working, it was just a gimmick to steal money from the audience. I’m a good boy and I rolled with the punches and everything, but it’s not my movie. 'Clash of the Titans' is not my movie."
It seems he blames his former employers for the decision to convert the movie to 3D post-filming.
“It was a very tough experience. I was literally thrown under the bus for something that... I still have a good relationship with Warner Bros., but at one point it was like, 'Yeah, Louis chose the 3D'. And I was like, 'No, guys, I didn't choose the 3D. I actually told you it's not working. I couldn't control it. I said don't do it'.
[Is 3d cinema doomed?]
“It's a fun action movie, all in all. Some people are really happy with the movie. I tried to do the best I could, but it was not the best experience of my life, I must say. I wasn't protected. Talking about surrounding yourself with the right people - I felt like I was really thrown at the wolves.”
Leterrier is currently doing the promotional rounds for his latest film 'Now You See Me', starring Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine.
