A-list cast in new August: Osage County trailer

George Clooney-produced drama shows off its stars.

A new trailer for 'August: Osage County' has arrived, and it's very much a case of 'count the stars'.

John Wells has directed this adaptation of Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize-winning stage play, with George Clooney pulling out his Rolodex as producer, snaring some impressive names for the cast.

Among them are (deep breath) Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Chris Cooper, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Abigail Breslin, Dermot Mulroney and Sam Shepherd.

The film is set in Oklahoma, it finds a dysfunctional family reunited by a funeral.

Streep plays Violet Weston, the volatile matriarch addled by prescription drugs, whose spiky relationship with her daughters (Roberts, Lewis and Julianne Nicholson) is played out in a painfully awkward manner.

Though this trailer hints at a warm heart, the reality is said to be much darker.

It's due out on Boxing Day.
