Arnie wants new Conan to be like '300'

The Governator has high hopes for the forthcoming, long-awaited sequel

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been talking up his new Conan movie, saying that it's set to be like Zack Snyder's heavily stylised swords-and-sandals flick '300'.

It seems that the Governator, who is to reprise his role in 'Legend of Conan', wants to make sure that the project is done properly.

“I'm excited [about it] because I've been hyping the idea to Universal Studios for quite some time,” he told MTV.

“The important thing with the Conan project is to make it into an A-movie that they treat it like a '300' or any of those great movies, rather than a B-movie where they hack a few heads off, a few limbs off and run around with a sword.

“The audience and the fans are very sophisticated. They've seen all the 'Spider-Man' and 'Superman' and 'Iron Man' and 'The Expendables' as regular action movies. They've seen it all. So when they see a Conan movie coming, they demand a spectacle.”

It's 29 years since Arnie appeared as the rippled barbarian Conan. It's hoped that it will do better than the rebooted version, which emerged in 2011 starring Jason Momoa and bombed at the box office.

Said 'Legend of Conan' producer Fredrik Malmberg: “The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make.

“It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life.

“He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.”
