Hollywood Rejection Letter

Rejection has never been easy, even in the Silent Era.

This script rejection letter, unearthed courtesy of BuzzFeed, comes from the Chicago based Essanay Film Manufacturing Company — the studio behind 14 early Charlie Chaplain shorts including 'The Tramp' in 1915.

Amongst the usual excuses such as "Weak plot" and the cold "Not interesting," number 17 is pretty interesting — given that number 2 is "No strong dramatic situations."

Perhaps they just wanted slapstick, cane-waddling and questionable facial hair?

Essanay was absorbed by Warner Bros. in 1925, but it's comforting to know studios have always been this blunt.
