As is now customary with all of Nolan's directorial projects, the secrecy of the plot remains fiercely guarded.

All that is known is that it is 'a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest reaches of our scientific understanding'.

Nolan is known for pulling his actors in from a selected pool, with Hathaway joining him for the first time on 'The Dark Knight Rises' as Catwoman.

In rather open online speculation, it's thought that one or more of the group comprising Michael Caine, Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy could well also feature.

Meanwhile, Nolan's long-time cinematographer Wally Pfister is currently assembling a cast for his directorial debut.

'Transcendence' is set to star Johnny Depp, Kate Mara, Rebecca Hall and Paul Bettany.

The plot centres around two scientists racing towards creating technological singularity, where computers surpass the human brain, and the radical anti-technology group fighting to stop them.
