New Superman villain revealed?

Potential new baddie for 'Man of Steel' could have come have come from an unusual source

A new villain for the forthcoming 'Superman' film 'Man of Steel' may have been revealed by a somewhat unlikely source.

A list of the new LEGO playsets has got comic book fans particularly excited, after it seemed to unveil a possible appearance from character Black Zero.

Among the new sets are names including 'Superman Battle of Smallville', 'Superman Metropolis Showdown' and 'Superman Black Zero Escape'.

The other LEGO releases appear to relate mostly to action sequences from films, including 'Batman vs. Bane – Chase With Tumbler' and 'Spider-man – Mission at Daily Bugle'.

Black Zero originally appeared in the 'Superman' comic books in the 1960s, in a story called 'The Man Who Destroyed Krypton'. He is described as a 'space saboteur' who destroyed planets and had been hired to wipe out Superman's home, and has also threatened to destroy the Earth.

No confirmation has come from DC Comics about another villain in the film, but tongues have definitely started wagging.

“No casting announcements have suggested that another baddie will pop up in the film, but it seems odd that LEGO would randomly release a Black Zero-themed set to coincide with Man of Steel’s release,” said Adam Chitwood of film site Collider. “As such, I wouldn’t be surprised if we catch a glimpse of the character when 'Man of Steel' hits theaters on June 14th, 2013.”

It's already known that 'Boardwalk Empire' star Michael Shannon is set to play General Zod in the film opposite British actor Henry Cavill as Superman.
