Is Ridley Scott set to bring Agatha Christie to the big screen?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker is in talks to produce an adaptation of the famed author's 1934 classic, Murder on the Orient Express.

20th Century Fox has picked up the rights to the project, and is hoping The Counsellor director will join forces with Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past) and Mark Gordon (Source Code) to bring it to the big screen.

The studio is also looking for writers to adapt the story, which sees iconic detective Hercule Poirot investigate a murder on board the train during a journey from Istanbul to London.

The mystery novel was previously adapted by Sidney Lumet in 1974, with Albert Finney in the starring role. The film picked up six Academy Award nominations, and won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Ingrid Bergman who played Swedish missionary Greta Ohlsson.

Alfred Molina and David Suchet have also starred in TV versions of the story.

Scott's other upcoming projects include sequels to previous films Prometheus and Blade Runner. The Counsellor is in cinemas now - check out our interview with star Michael Fassbender below:
