Shocking Matthew McConaughey pics show weight loss for new role

Actor looks gaunt on set in preparation for role as HIV sufferer in forthcoming project

Matthew McConaughey has been snapped looking shockingly thin after losing 30lbs for a new film role.

The pictures were taken after he appeared on set for the new Martin Scorsese film 'The Wolf of Wall Street', currently being shot in New York.

But McConaughey, who was last seen on screens with a rippling torso in stripper film 'Magic Mike', has made the loss for forthcoming project 'The Dallas Buyer's Club'.

In the real-life story, he plays Ron Woodruff, a man who contracted HIV through drug use in the 1980s.

The actor told Larry King recently: “I'm playing a guy who was sick and would have loved to have been healthier but wasn't.

“For me, it's more of a mental thing than a physical thing. I'll get down to the weight I need to get to. I'm on my way, and it's what I need to do for the job.

“It’s a bit of a spiritual cleanse, mental cleanse. [I’m] drinking a lot of tea. It takes a while for your body to understand that it has to feed off of itself and that you’re not going to give it something else from the outside.”
