The funniest movie swear edits on TV

It’s not uncommon for foul-mouthed movies to receive a clever redub before they air pre-watershed on TV.

Whether out of play-it-safe prudishness, or simply because the film is on too early for young ears, TV networks (often in the US) will tamper with the dialogue track to clean up those swears.

Only censorship isn’t always that seamless, as this video compilation from the folks at Buzzfeed proves.

The Federal Complaints Commission (the US version of OFCOM) enforce strict guidelines on profanity for network broadcasts between 6AM and 10PM - resulting in many a ridiculous redub by terrified TV execs.

There’s the rehashing of Samuel L. Jackson’s iconic ‘Jackie Brown’ line: “AK-47. The very best there is. When you absolutely, positively have to kill every mother-f**ker in the room” to the granddad-hating “every mother’s father in the room.”

Or the sort of understandable (but badly executed) switching of Christopher Lloyd’s “serious s**t”” for some less serious “stuff” in cult caper ‘Back To The Future’.

But the most bizarre edit award goes to the chaps responsible for cleaning-up Coen Brothers classic ‘The Big Lewboski’. They removed John Goodman’s angry car-trashing tirade “You see what happens Larry? You see what happens when you f**k a stranger in the ass?!” for the far more surreal “You see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?!”

Yes we do John, and it’s ruddy hilarious. Watch the full video above, mother-fathers.
