In 1980 the world’s attention turned to London as 6 armed men took 26 people hostage in London’s Iranian Embassy. The standoff with the hostage takers lasted six days and ended with a dramatic and brutal assault by the British special forces generating headlines around the world. It was one of the first times the public ever witnessed the SAS in action.
The movie, shot on location in London, is based on a new screenplay by Glenn Standring. The Kiwi scribe carried out extensivenew interviews with individuals who played key parts in the real events. The film is told from three viewpoints: hostage negotiator Max Vernon (Mark Strong); news reporter Kate Adie (Abbie Cornish), and SAS operative Rusty Firmin (Jamie Bell).
Bell, recently linked with the role of James Bond, plays the leader of one of the SAS teams who stormed the Embassy to end the siege. The filmmakers says they’re aiming for “a definitive inside account of a historic military operation.”
Here’s the official synopsis: In April 1980, six armed gunmen stormed the Iranian Embassy in Princes Gate, London, taking 26 people inside hostage. Over the next six days a tense standoff took place, all the while a group of highly trained soldiers from the SAS prepared for a raid, the likes of which the world had never seen before.
‘6 Days’ will release across the UK and Ireland 4 August 2017.
